Converteam to increase WISCO’s high quality silicon steel production in China
Wuhan, 31 August 2011 - Power conversion specialist Converteam recently signed with Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation (WISCO), one of China’s largest iron and steel producers, a contract for six green-field processing lines for their silicon steel Qingshan plant aiming to produce the first coil by the end of October 2012. The contract was signed by CONWAC (Converteam Wuhan Automation Co. Ltd), a 50/50 Joint Venture between the WISCO Group and Converteam, and consequently follows the award earlier this year by WISCO to Converteam of the complete drives and automation – basic and process automation - package for two Z-high Cold Rolling Mills, dedicated to flat electrical steel production as well.
These Continuous Pickling Lines (CPL´s) are key to produce high quality magnetic induction silicon steel products. CPL´s treat rolled flat steel surface to remove impurities, stains, rust or scale with strong mineral acids before subsequent treatment. Those processing lines will strengthen WISCO’s leading position in high quality silicon steel production.
As an EPC contractor, CONWAC will cooperate with WISCO experts and the local design institute to deliver a complete system including design studies, engineering, equipment supply, construction, commissioning and training. The supply will include Low Voltage and Medium Voltage (10kV) power distribution and drives along with basic and process automation systems (Level 1 & 2).
More than 20 lines equipped with CONWAC automation solutions for silicon steel production are successfully operating in WISCO’s plants, making Converteam an expert in this field with leading references in China.
In the past 25 years Converteam has commissioned in China more than 140 electrical installations in the Metals industry covering steel making, rolling mills, processing lines and energy quality.
